Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 October 2026
This policy explains what information the Mixtape Maker app and this website (mixtapemaker.org) use, why, and the choices you have. Mixtape Maker is an independent app run from the Netherlands — you can reach us at info@mixtapemaker.org.
- No accounts. We never ask for your name, email address or a password.
- Your tapes stay on your phone — until you choose to share one.
- A shared tape can be seen by anyone with its link, so don't put anything in it you'd want kept private.
- The app shows ads from Google. In the UK and EU we ask for your consent first, and on iPhone Apple asks whether you allow tracking.
- We don't sell your personal information.
When you share a mixtape
To make the link work, the tape is stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore): its title, your message, the songs (with their YouTube, Spotify and Apple Music links), when it was shared, and the app version. The link contains a random 7-character code. Anyone who has the link can open that tape; tapes can't be browsed or searched by other people.
Shared tapes are kept so their links keep working. To have one deleted, email us the link and we'll remove it.
On your phone
The tape you're making, your collection, and tapes people have sent you are stored only on your phone, and are removed if you delete the app.
Finding and playing music
- YouTube Search sends what you type to YouTube to find videos, and videos play in YouTube's own player. These features use YouTube API Services: by using them you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google handles that information under the Google Privacy Policy.
- Spotify: when you add a song from YouTube, its title and artist are sent to Spotify to find the matching Spotify track. Spotify's players on this website are run by Spotify — see the Spotify Privacy Policy.
- Spotify playlists: "Add to my Spotify" and "View playlist in Spotify" ask our server to turn the tape into a playlist in the Mixtape Maker Spotify account, using the tape's title and songs (not your message). The playlist isn't shown on our Spotify profile or in Spotify search, but anyone with its link can open it.
Ads
The app shows ads from Google AdMob: a banner on the home screen and, at most, a full-screen ad after you share a tape. To show ads, measure them and prevent fraud, Google may collect information such as your device's advertising identifier (only if you allow tracking), IP address and approximate location, device and app details, and how you interact with ads. Learn more in how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
- UK, EEA and Switzerland: the app asks for your consent the first time you open it. You can change your choice at any time under the ⓘ About screen → Privacy settings.
- Tracking: Apple's prompt asks whether you allow tracking. You can change this in your iPhone's Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- If you don't consent or don't allow tracking, you may still see ads, but they won't be personalised.
This website
mixtapemaker.org shows shared tapes and lets you play them. We don't use analytics or advertising cookies on the site. The YouTube and Spotify players and Google Fonts are provided by those companies, which receive your IP address and may set their own cookies. Our web host keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) for security. To stop anyone flooding our Spotify account, our server counts playlist requests using a scrambled, one-way version of your IP address that is deleted within two days.
Who else handles information
Google (Firebase, AdMob, YouTube and Google Fonts), Spotify, and our web host (Namecheap) process information as described above. Some of them may handle it outside the UK and EU, for example in the United States, using the legal safeguards they provide for international transfers.
Our legal basis (UK and EU)
We rely on your consent for personalised ads; on our legitimate interests to run and protect the app and website and to show non-personalised ads; and on providing the service you ask for when you share a tape or make a playlist.
Children
Mixtape Maker isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has put personal information in a shared tape, email us the link and we'll remove it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask to see, correct or delete information about you, object to how it's used, or withdraw consent. Because there are no accounts, include the tape link if your request is about a tape. Email info@mixtapemaker.org. You can also complain to a data protection authority: in the Netherlands, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens; elsewhere in the EU, your local authority; in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
